Did you think ticket prices were high in 2024? You. Haven’t. Seen. Anything. Get-in prices on Seatgeek for the National Championship between Ohio State and Notre Dame are now above $6,000 PER SEAT. In the immediate aftermath of the semi-finals, ticket prices sat just above $2,000 apiece.

Oh, I’ll just wait until right before kickoff when ticket prices drop. No, the Economics 101 lesson you learned in college on the time value of a sporting ticket doesn’t matter anymore. Not when everyone else is thinking the same thing and has a smartphone in their hands. Everyone waiting around until the last minute almost always causes inventory to run dry and the prices to spike. We saw the same thing when Georgia visited Alabama on September 28, 2024. Tickets ranged from $350-450 ever since the game was first announced. Hours before kickoff, upper-deck tickets spiked above half a grand each. Some upper tickets went for nearly a thousand dollars that night.

Given the freezing temperatures around the country, it’s a bonus that this game is played inside the warm confines of the Georgia Dome. Moreover, we have a perfect storm of fan demand. For one, it’s Notre Dame. Enough said. For Ohio State, it’s been just over ten years since they won the national championship, and their fans have every reason to expect a big win tonight. After all, it’s not like they’re facing Clemson, Georgia, or Alabama. Who wants to spend two grand when you might win the natty? Buckeye fans expect to win the natty tonight. And for good measure. They’re currently an 8.5-point favorite.
